Late drama at the Victoria ground resulted in Nuneton Griff leaving with all three points, despite Bromsgrove Sporting holding a 1-0 lead for the majority of the match.

Table toppers Bolehall Swift extend their good start to the season with a 2-0 win at the Victoria Ground against a Bromsgrove Sporting side coming off the back of an 8-0 win after their FA Vase triumph last Saturday.

Bolehall created the first chance of the game, inside the opening ten minutes when Chris Sturridge-Parker attempted to chip, Sporting keeper Jake Bedford from just outside the box, though his effort was high of the target.

Sturridge-Parker had an opportunity to better his previous long range effort in the 19^th minute. Bedford rushed out of his box to clear a long ball from Bolehall, his headed clearance fell straight to the feet of Sturridge-Parker who struck the ball into an empty net from around the 25 yard mark from goal, giving Bolehall an early lead.

Possession was equal in the first half and despite some good attacking play from Sporting they didn’t create any threatening attempts during the first half. After the visitors got their goal inside the first twenty minutes, they also didn’t push for a second before the half time break.

Bromsgrove Sporting emerged a better side after half time, a team that looked like they could get that equaliser. Winger Will Tibbetts latched on to a fantastic low cross, whipped in from the near touchline, but his touch took the ball over the crossbar.

Ricardo Richards, who like Will Tibbetts got a hat-trick last weekend for Bromsgrove, had a great chance to get an equaliser for the Rouslers, eight minutes from the re-start. A high diagonal ball out from the wing found Richards who brought the ball down inside the box, though effort should have been better with his shot both high and wide of the goal.

Despite Bolehall looking the weaker side in the second half they was able to capitalize on the two missed chances from Sporting, and extend their lead. Bromsgrove’s defence switched off for a brief moment allowing a through ball to put Bolehall’s Dave Yonwin clean through on goal, he then calmly slide the ball under Bedford to give the away side a 2-0 lead.  

Sporting didn’t let their heads drop and still produced some good attacking play in the final stages of the match. Ricardo Richards was unlucky to have not been awarded a penalty when he was pushed over in the box, but referee Matthew Perry waved play on.

Bromsgrove’s finishing was far from what we saw last week against Stafford, the aerial threat they have wasn’t utilised at all in this game.

Sporting substitute, Snape had the final effort of the game, he wriggled through a few tackles and found room to shoot at goal, but his shot was hit straight at Bolehall keeper, McNulty.

The game finished 0-2 to Bolehall with the match being fairly even, neither side created many chances and possession was split equally. Bolehall made the most of the few chances they had and had Sporting done the same then both sides could have easily left with a point each. This result ends a four game unbeaten run in the league for Sporting, but if they want to challenge for promotion this season then they need to get back to winning ways next Saturday when the play Pelsall Villa away.

Two Bromsgrove hat-tricks from Will Tibbetts and Ricardo Richards help Sporting stun Stafford Town 8-0 in the FA Vase second qualifying round.

The Victoria Ground was the host to this spectacle on this warm autumn afternoon. It took the home side only 13 minutes to get their first goal thanks to a great run from James Johnson. He skipped past a Stafford defender a delivered the ball into the box, Ricardo Richards hit the ball on the half volley and it bounced up into the top left corner.

Three minutes later and Bromsgrove gained their second. A long diagonal ball from winger Jack Wilson found Ricardo Richards at the back post, he then placed the ball into the far corner with a header to make the score 2-0.

Richards was proving a menace to the Stafford defence and could have gained his hat-trick within the 17 minute mark, though his effort was hit just wide. But the Bromsgrove striker did get his third minutes later, a Jack Wilson cross again was the cause. Richards latched onto the end of the low hit cross to slide the ball under Stafford keeper, Barry Weston.

Stafford’s start to the game went from bad to worse just before the half an hour mark when Chris Morris was shown his second yellow card of the game after making a comment to referee Dell Hill.

Bromsgrove made the most of the sending off by again stepping up the pressure. Lewis Clarke headed just over from a corner and moments later Richards’ powerful shot clipped the top on the cross bar in the final stages of the first half. 

Sporting got their forth just before the break. Will Tibbetts baffled the final Stafford defender with his quick footwork to put him through on goal, he then fired the ball past the goalkeeper to put the home side up 4-0 at the half time mark.

Stafford emerged from the re-start a defeated team and within the first 5 minutes their defence completely switched off, allowing Richards to take the ball past Weston, but as he stretched for the ball he couldn’t redirect it goal bound.

The combination of wingers Tibbetts and Wilson was a threat to Stafford all day. Tibbetts almost got his second goal of the game but his powerful shot hit the underside of the bar to keep the score at 4-0. 

Frustration started to kick in for ten man Stafford and they soon became nine when defender Chris McComisky was shown his second yellow card when he tried to lash out at James Johnson.

It wasn’t long before the home side got their fifth from yet again another long ball. Another assist from Jack Wilson whose cross found Tibbetts at the back post, an easy tap in for the Sporting winger made the score 5-0.

Stafford’s only threating effort came in the 71^st minute. The Sporting defence switched off momentarily to put Burslem though on goal. Bedford did well to close down the angle and Burslem’s shot hit the crossbar.

The six and seventh came minutes apart for Sporting. A poorly defended corner allowed an unmarked Poyner to tap in Bromsgrove’s sixth.

The seventh came after some excellent play from the Rouslers. Wilson’s cross to the far post found Richards who headed the ball back across the box to substitute Snape, he then tapped the ball into an open goal.

Bromsgrove made it eight in the 82^nd minute with Tibbetts getting his hat-trick. The Rouslers winger brought the ball under control and cut inside on to his left foot and fired the ball into the far corner of the net, giving Sporting an 8-0 win.

Stafford failed to turn up today, not being able to deal with the home sides long balls was their main downfall and as soon as they became ten their heads dropped and they looked like a defeated side.

Bromsgrove are on a good run of form and will be looking to take this back into the league when they play Bolehall Swifts next Saturday. A fantastic performance from the Rouslers in this FA Vase qualifying match and they will now progress into the first round of the competition, the draw will be announced on Monday.

Ricardo Richards and Will Tibbetts wasn’t the only players to get a hat-trick today. Sporting winger Jack Wilson also got a hat-trick of assist in todays 8-0 win.

Bromsgrove Sporting have progressed to the second qualifying round of the FA Vase after a late header from Richards sealed the 1-0 victory over Lye Town.

This victory acts as somewhat as a sweet revenge for Bromsgrove, after Lye Town’s victory last March in the Smedley Crooke Cup quarter final against Sporting.

Bromsgrove Sporting began well by applying pressure early on in the game. Sporting’s Jack Wilson and Will Tibbetts played a key part in Bromsgrove’s domination of the first half with a combination of trickery and key passes from either wing.

The opening chance fell to Sporting’s Matt Poyner after a great run from Wilson on the near touchline, though his effort failed to find the target.

Minutes later and Will Tibbetts drifted in from the far wing and unleashed a shot goal bound, taking a deflection off a defenders hand on the way. The penalty was awarded to Bromsgrove but Jacob Snape’s powerful drive hit the outside of the post, keeping the score line goalless.

A string of Sporting chances from Ricardo Richards and Jack Wilson should have been enough to give the home side the lead, though all efforts again failed to hit the target.

Thirty-Eight minutes in and a low through ball put Jacob Snape in a one on one position for the Rouslers. Had Snape not taken too much time on the ball, allowing the Lye defence to catch the Sporting striker and make the vital tackle, he may have got Sporting’s much deserved goal before the break.

Lye failed to make an impact in the first half, with their only shot taking a deflection after a skilful run from Chris Pontz. The away side could count themselves lucky that the score line was still goalless at halftime.  

Lye Town emerged a better side at break but still not a side that looked like scoring. Their only real testing effort on goal came from, substitute Simon Williams who let lose a shot towards the Sporting near post. Bromsgrove’s Jake Bedford had a good afternoon and got down quick, diving on top of the ball, making the save look easier than it was.

Bromsgrove Sporting managed to find the target more in the second half but still failed to find the net after a hat-trick of shots from Ricardo Richards.

The game looked to be going to extra time had it not been from a fantastic diagonal cross from Bromsgrove’s James Johnson with a minute to go. The ball found the head of Ricardo Richards who redirected the ball into the goalkeeper’s left hand side of the net to win the match 1-0.

A good performance from Bromsgrove and it was clear they was the better of the two sides on the day.  Had they not been so wasteful in the first half then they could have easily been two or three goals up at half time. Still a strong performance from the Rouslers who kept mounting on the pressure with chance after chance. They left it late but they got their goal, Sporting will now play Stafford Town in the second qualifying round of the FA Vase on Saturday the 21^st September after they beat Bewdley 3-2 AET.

The Rousler's Round Up

Bromsgrove’s super sub Jake Brown looked to have been the catalyst to turn the home side’s fortunes around, but despite Brown’s late equaliser it wasn’t enough to deny Alvis all three points. The away side left the Victoria ground with a 3-2 victory following a dramatic closing ten minutes.

The visitors began well, creating the game’s opening chance inside the five minute mark, but Bromsgrove keeper Jake Bedford stood strong with a superb catch from McCafferty’s close range effort.

Bromsgrove responded with chances of their own and should have taken the lead in the 17^th minute. Jacob Snape was put clean through on goal and attempted a chip shot over Alvis goalkeeper Neil Collett, but his effort lofted wide of the far right post.

Former World Cup and Cameroonian international Patrick Suffo began the play that lead to Alvis’ first goal. Suffo’s free kick deflected out to the near touchline where the ball was delivered onto the head of Christian Jordan. His header flew under Bedford’s right arm to give the away side the lead.  

Bromsgrove replied strongly with two great chances from Will Tibbetts. His second the better of the two after Tibbetts beat two Alvis defenders and fired off a shot on goal, though his effort failed to hit the target.

Bromsgrove’s missed opportunities proved costly when Alvis got their second late on in the first half. Calvin Thompson was put clean through on goal when the Rousers defence switched off, clamming offside. 

Thompson calmly slotted the ball past Bedford into the bottom corner to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.

The Rouslers replied with a goal of their own before the break. Ashman’s low pass across the face of the goal left Matt Poyner to tap the ball into an open net for his third goal in the last two games.

Bromsgrove emerged from the break a stronger side and should have been awarded a penalty ten minutes after the re-start when Tibbett’s was brought down.

The home side continued to pile on the pressure with shots from Snape and Ashman, both bringing acrobatic saves out of Alvis keeper Collett.

Alvis had the chance to seal all three points five minutes from the full time whistle when awarded a penalty after Chris Gleadow dragged down Leon Kelly inside the box. Steve Evans stepped up and hit a poorly struck penalty straight at Bedford to keep the score at 2-1 to Alvis.

Then began a disastrous few minutes for Alvis when Fitzharris was sent off for lashing out at a Bromsgrove player.

Bromsgrove took advantage of the extra man and substitute Jake Brown’s effort gave the home side the equaliser two minutes from full time. His clever flick set himself up for a half volley and he then fired the ball past Collett’s near post.

The home side looked to have acquired a much deserved point from the match but an earlier mistake cropped up again when the Rouslers appealed for an offside that wasn’t given. Leon Kelly was then put in a one on one situation on the counter attack and slid the ball past Bedford to give the away side a late 3-2 victory.

 

The home side created the more chances and was the better side on the day, but failing to convert the chances they created proved costly as Alvis took all three points. Bromsgrove Sporting will be looking to bounce back when they play Earlswood Town on Monday.

Bromsgrove Sporting have been eliminated from the Smedley Crooke Cup after losing 1-0 against a strong Lye Town that have only lost once in their last 31 matches.

The quarter final played at the Victoria Ground was a pretty even game with both teams having equal possession and creating chances inside the opening half.

Lye Town’s Richard Anslow had the first challenging effort of the game and brought a good save out of Sporting goalkeeper Tom Savage. His second moments later was a great chance to take an early lead but the shot was high and wide.

Joe Brooks was able to create two efforts of his own for the Rouslers inside the opening quarter but both long ranged shots failed to threaten the away goal.

Lye’s Town was creating more chances inside the first half with Ben Jevons and Richard Anslow supplying two more chances before the break. Neither found the target.

The second half was again equal in terms of possession but it was the away side who created more efforts on goal.

Richard Anslow had a great opportunity to give the away side the lead straight after the re-start but Tom Savage again denied the striker after he went into a one on one position.

Minutes later Lye almost opened the scoring when a Sporting back pass hit the post. The ball was the right side of the post in Sporting’s eyes as the ball rolled out for a corner.

The home side responded well and almost grabbed the lead just over the hour mark. Bromsgrove proved a threat from outside the box and Joe Lawley reinforced this when his shot, destined for the bottom corner, brought a good diving save to Danny Watson’s left.

Eventually the away side broke the deadlock after 64 minutes. A long ball was switched from the far side into the box and found an unmarked Ben Hadley who then side footed the ball past Tom Savage to give Lye Town a 1-0 lead.

Late into injury time Bromsgrove pushed everyone forward, including goalkeeper Tom Savage, for the corner and once cleared Lye Town had the chance for their second. Their attempt was blocked by a Bromsgrove defender and they failed to knock the ball into an empty net.

In the final moments of the game frustration kicked in and Bromsgrove’s Keith Draper was shown a second yellow card for tripping Lee Dimmock after he kicked the ball away. Dimmocks poor reaction to the incident earned him a straight red after he head-butted Draper.

Lye Town was able to see off the remainder of the game to progress through to the next round after winning 1-0.

Sporting played well and matched Lye Town in possession and overall the game was pretty equal. Bromsgrove wasn’t really too much of a threat up front though due to the 4-3-3 formation they played and they sat deep at times leaving few players going forward. But it still was a good performance from the Rouslers.
