Finally
the trailer to the hit 2006 sequel of 300as arrived. 300: Rise of an
Empire continues where 300 left off, still firmly under the reins ofZach Snyder(Man of Steel, 300and
Watchmen). Though the 2006 adaptation of the famousBattle of Thermoplaewasn’t a true account of goings on, 300 was still
an excellent film, combining a gritty and more of a mythological take on the
historical battle, and it went down well. Now eight years on (with 300: Rise of
an Empire set for a 2014 release), the sequel sets add a bigger Greek army to
the mix whilst still keeping these intense action scenes.
Watch the action
packed trailer below featuring Eva Green :-
The sequel to last years The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journeyis set to follow on with the second installment in the Hobbit franchise with The Hobbit: The Desolation Of Smaug.
The trailer, released by Warner Brothers Studios, entices you to believe that The Desolation Of Smaug will be a more action packed affair compared to the first installment of The Hobbit, that at times seemed a little hollow in places and felt like an extremely long beginning to a film rather than a stand alone film, that had its own story but still contributing to create a trilogy. Don't get me wrong, the Hobbit is a great film but just not as good as the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. Hopefully the second can improve on the last and aim higher than the Lord of the Rings, a tall order yes, but one I'm sure Peter Jackson will be aiming to accomplish.
The summer blockbusters of 2013 are starting to roll out and
below I have compiled what looks to be the best comedy movies.
3. The Hangover Part 3- May
The first Hangover was recently voted funniest comedy film
ever by British cinema goers on The Sun. There is a reason why and the third installment looks to continue the same formula that we all found hilarious. The
second Hangover was highly criticised for being too similar to the original and
lacked that innovation that took us in with the first film. The third isn’t using
that traditional formula that the others seem to use. It looks as though the
trilogy is going to end on a high.
2. Kick Ass 2 – July
The sequel to the 2010 hit comedy is set to be released this
year recruiting the comedy genius that is Jim Carrey along the way. This isn’t a
typical superhero film as it adds that layer of vulnerability to the
characters. I expect Kick Ass 2 to be like Kick Ass whereby it’s very funny but
serious at the same time. It is very unique and I recommend anyone to watch thefirst film before seeing Kick Ass 2.
1. This is the End – June
The all-star cast including Seth Rogan, James Franco, JohanHill, Michael Sara plus a couple of A-list celebrities, to name a few, all play
themselves in this comedy. After a massive party at James Fanco’s house, that
includes some of the best comedy actors in the industry along with celebrity’s
like Rihanna and Emma Watson, the characters find them self coming face to face with the apocalypse. The apocalypse situation the actors find
themselves in results in them being confined inside James Franco’s house and
sure to create comedy gold. This in my opinion could go two ways, it could be
genius by confining these comedic minds together or it could fall a bit flat
and appear stale. But I’m quite confident that this will succeed and if it does
it has the potential to take the comedy crown.
Over the last few days we have seen some epic trailers
released for some of this summer’s potential blockbuster hits. Trailers such as
Man of Steel, Only God Forgives and a trailer for the new Zombie Land TV
Series.
Man of Steel
The latest movie from director Zack Snyder (Watchmen and
300) and producer Christopher Nolan (The Dark Night) looks set to be a really big
triumph once the movie hits our screens. The trailer doesn’t give too much away
when it comes to story but shows us that it is going to lead the style of
Batman Begins (Christopher Nolan) by showing the development of the main hero
and how they become this superhero. The action packed trailer is very
impressive and the film is looking like a must see once it is released. The
initial problems behind the older superhero films is that sense of invincibility
that made the films cheesy and boring and I’m wondering how they are going to create
that emotional vulnerability behind this indestructible godly character. If it is pulled off then this could be one of the films of te year. Trailer
below:-
Only God Forgives
Ryan Gosling teams back up with director Nicolas Winding
Refn of the hit film Drive (2011). This could be the last time we see Gosling on
the acting front for a while as he pursues a directing path. Only God Forgives
latest trailer still doesn’t show too much in terms of story but shows some
action scenes. This film looks as though it could be structured like Drive with
the superb writing and acting performance focussed more on than the action scenes.
Trailer below:-
Zombieland (TV
Series)
Zombieland the TV series is the follow up to the 2009 comedy
movie and is exclusive to Amazon (Amazon Instant or Love Film in the UK). The
short trailer looks as though the series is keeping to the films structure and
applying the same comedic style contained within the film. Though the new series looks as though it has completely missed the comedy gold within in the movie. It looks as though this isnt going to be something TV goers are going to miss. The show stars Kirk
Ward, Tyler Ross, Maiara Walsh as they keep to the classic rules set out in
Zombieland. Most of all the pilot is available now on Amazon Instant or LoveFilm. Trailer Below:-
Elysium is the new Sc-Fi Action film from director Neill
Blomkamp (District 9). Elysium, starring Matt Damon (as Max De Costa), Jodie
Foster (as Secretary Rhodes, head of security on Elysium) and Sharlto Copley
(as Kuger), is set in the year 2154 and clearly has some implications presents
taken from District 9.
The new trailer for the movie shows off a desolate looking
earth where the only safe haven is in a space station where only the wealthy
may bask in its beauty city. The paradise know as Elysium inhabits a place
where sickness, poverty and war are extinct and left to exist in the poor and polluted
looking earth.
District 9 focused on the slums in South Africa and focused
on the poor living there. This movie again looks at the poor, but shows the
vast contrast between the living conditions of those that are in poverty and
the wealthy.
Max De Costa looks to travel to Elysium for some reason, the
reason isn’t revealed in the trailer but could possibly be to restore some
balance in humanity’s separation of wealth. Anyway in order for Max to infiltrate,
what is the heaviest guarded place in the universe, he gets what looks to be
some bionic attachment to his body in order for him to complete this mission.
The action pack trailer has a lot on but not too much when
it comes to revealing the plot other than Max must get to Elysium. The trailer does
create some interest by revealing very little and instead focusing on showing
some action. Expect another trailer soon that reveals more when it comes to story.
Elysium is out in cinemas this summer on August 9th.
So there have been many new film trailers released over the
past week. I have rounded up the best over the week and compiled them all for
your ease. We’ve seen the likes on Grown
Ups 2; This is the End and Pineapple Express 2 …. Okay there may be a little
catch to the last one.
Grown Ups 2
This is the sequel to the 2010 comedy Grown Ups. It stars
Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Chris Rock and directed by Denis Dugan. The 2010
film was about five old friends reuniting for the fourth of July and two years
later Adam Sandler’s character (Lenny) and the rest of his friends have decided
to move back to their old home town after enjoying themselves so much in the
first movie. But this time there going to come up against the kids of today. I wasn’t
a fan of the first film, I do like Sandler films and some of his classics like
Happy Gilmore keep me laughing every time but there was just something about
this that didn’t stick with me. The trailer for the second film does look interesting but that’s
what trailers are supposed to do right…
Anyway the trailer is funny and there are some moments to be
checked out below.
This is the End
Now this is a film I’m looking forward too. The apocalyptic
scenario in this film, set in the real world (so all the characters play themselves) is an experience that looks to keep you laughing. This
film has some great comedy actors including Seth Rogan, James Franco, Jonah
Hill, Danny McBride, Michael Cera, Jason Segal, Paul Rudd, Aziz Ansari, Craig Robinson, Jay Baruchel and an appearance from Emma
Watson and Rihanna. Wow, now that cast in my opinion looks set to be the ultimate comedy film. I’m so glad to see Rogan and Franco reunited since Pineapple Express, in my
opinion one of my favourite comedies, and this film looks to be great. It will
be out June this year and I cant wait.
Pineapple Express 2
Okay yes this isn’t in fact real but it’s still a funny
trailer staring the cast of ‘This is the End’. This trailer was released April
1st as an April fool’s joke but it’s good to see the actors take
some time out to have a laugh; it’s what they do best right. Anyway April fools
may have passed but it’s still worth watching.
So over the past few days we have had quite a lot of new
trailers released. That includes a teaser for the new Wolverine, the second
trailer for Kick Ass 2, a new trailer for Pain & Gain and the first trailer
for White House Down.
March 26th
The Wolverine
So I know that I already did a roundup of trailers from
March 25th. But later that day a new teaser was released for The Wolverine from MTV. The
six second teaser didn’t show too much but the day after an extended teaser,
with a running time of 20 seconds, was released. The trailer shows an almost
constant reel of action. The film stars Hugh Jackman who plays the part of The
Wolverine. I did enjoy the first film, X-Men Origins: Wolverine, but I didn’t find
it perfect, there was a few sloppy parts including the scene where the crew
made a smoke machine visible in the background by mistake.
Dark Skies
Dark Skies is another film about alien visitors to earth.
From the creators of Paranormal Activity and Insidious the trailer doesn’t
show too much. The 50 second trailer shows a boy running through the woods
until he hears a high pitch sound. Then as the tense music builds up it comes
to its conclusion when another boy enters the scene and the other boy undergoes
a form of abduction. The story follows the Barrett family who undergo
the paranormal terror that these alien’s bring as they start to realise the
true reasoning to their memory loss. This trailer only seems to be available form Total Film as of this moment so head over to their website to check out the scene.
The Great Gatsby has a two new TV-spots at around 30 seconds
long each. The stars of this film, out in May, include Leonardo DiCaprio, Isla
Fisher, Myrtle Wilson, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Carey Mulligan and Tobey
Maguire. The film sees Nick Carraway (played by Toby Maguire), a Midwestern war
veteran, become interested in his millionaire neighbour played by DiCaprio. After
watching Leonardo DiCaprio’s stunning performance in Django Unchained I’m
looking forward to see if he is capable to pull off as good, if not better, of
a performance than in Django.
March 27th
White House Down
Again this is another film I’m looking forward to seeing
after hearing about Jamie Foxx playing a key role in this film after his great
performance in Django. White House Down also stars Channing Tatum, Jason Clarke
and Joey King and today came the first trailer. This Washington disaster movie comes
after another one premièred last week in the form of Olympus has Fallen. This film,
form the director of Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow and 2012, stars
Channing Tatum lead rolling and playing
a cop who must react to
the attack on Washington (as seen in the trailer) so
save both his younger daughter and the president.
Pain & Gain
We have a Red Band trailer after the release of a short
TV-Spot a few days ago. The action comedy, starring Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne
Johnson, is definitely a different approach to a Michael Bay movie than we are used too. The lengthy trailer is action packed after a
short motivational speech from the recognisable voice of Ken Jeong (most
popularly known as Mr Chow in the Hangover). The film is about three
body builders who trade the gym for a life of crime after they rob a criminal
businessman. But after their successful robbery everything comes chasing after
them.
Kick Ass 2
We have the second trailer for the second Kick Ass and this
one focuses on Hit girl. This trailer remind us of that young 12 year old girl
form the first movie and now that she’s a bit older (15), showing us she still
lives up to the badass title she earned. This is definitely a film I’ll be
watching after loving the first movie and with one of my comedy favourites, Jim
Carrey, playing a major role in this movie I’m expected that unexpected comedy
presence that was in the first movie to be present in this also.
New Movie / Film Trailers: Weekly Round up 1: March 24 and 25 th
The final part of the first weeks round up of trailers will
include the new movie trailers released over the past few days. We've seen the
first look at the new Riddick film, a Hummingbird trailer, and another trailer from
World War Z and a TV-spot from Pain & Gain.
March 24th
Riddick
It’s been almost a decade since the last Riddick was
released back in 2004. Yesterday Vin Diesel released an official teaser for the
new sequel via his Facebook page. I haven’t seen the first movie so I’m not too
familiar with the plot and this short trailer doesn’t give anything away when
it comes to storyline. This teaser has Vin Diesel deep narrative throughout and
we also get a release date of September 6th. Watch the trailer
below:-
Hummingbird
The Hummingbird stars Jason Statham playing Joey Jones set in
London. Joey, as in typical Statham nature, is give the hard man label and
given a second chance after being homeless, to go to work in the London criminal
underbelly. This looks like it could be a very different role to what we normally
expect from Statham. Yes I’m sure it’s going to involve Statham beating the
living day lights out of endless foes but there also seems to be a big
emotional impact in this movie involving Joey's love for a girl. Directed by
Steven Knight, the Hummingbird is one I’m quite interested in. This surprised
me because I’m not normally one who enjoys Statham’s films but I’ll definitely
be keeping a close eye on this one when it’s released on May 17th.
March 25th
World War Z
So far we have only been give one trailer and a short TV-spot
at the Super Bowl. Well today we have been given trailer number 2. The lengthy
trailer shows almost all new footage mainly focusing on the lead actor in this
movie Brad Pitt. This trailer being so long includes a lot of new analysis. I’ll
do a separate article later today of a review and analysis on this specific
trailer.
Pain & Gain
A TV-spot for Pain & Gain was released yesterday. The
Michael Bay film stars Dwayne Johnson, Anthony Mackie and Mark Wahlberg. The
Comedy, Drama movie is about a group of body builders that get caught up in a
new career away from thegym. They decide the best way forward is
to kidnap a twisted businessman but being a comedy things don’t go to plan.
A lot of big name trailers were released on March 21st
including the likes of Star Trek, Iron Man 3 and Fast and Furious 6. Along with
these big names a we also saw trailers for other films such as Epic, Crush,
Copperhead and Ryan Gosling’s new film The Place Beyond the Pines.
March 21st
Star Trek: Into
Darkness
The new international trailer for Star Trek focuses mainly
on Benedict Cumberbatch but also includes a lot more explosions, a lot more
fighting and a lot more action. The crew learn about a betrayal that starts a
man hunt for Cumberbatch's character to stop a terror threat against mankind. The film is
looking very impressive and definitely one I will be checking out once it
launches in May.
Iron Man 3
This is only a Tv-spot so the footage isn't new but still this
is a film I will also be watching after seeing one of my favourite films of
last year, Avengers. It will be interested to see how the film follows on from the
Avengers. Take a look below at the new Tv-spot:-
Fast & Furious 6
Whilst we are on the theme of Tv-spots we might as well
mention this one as well. Again this is mostly recycled footage with a few
short snippets to cement the 30 second clip together. The main highlighted scenes
all come from the already seen tank and plane scene.
This film starring Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper is about
a father, Ryan Gosling’s character, Luke, being unable to provide for is new-born
child and wife. He turns to robbing banks that ultimately leads him to being track
down by a rookie cop. This could be the last film we see Ryan in for a while
after this week’s news about him taking a break from acting and focusing more
on directing and producing. This film is looking very impressive and should be
a hit once it premiers in April.
So there have been many new film trailers released over the
past week. I have rounded up the best over the week and compiled them all for
your ease. Rather than make a very clunky article with every trailer inside and
I've spilt them up for a more ease of use. On March 20th we had a
few new trailers released and below are the top 5 trailers with a brief description.
March 20th:-
The Internship
A new international trailer was realised this week for The
Internship that stars Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn. The Internship is a comedy about
two people living in the past and not very up to date with modern technology. After
their company gets closed down they apply for an Internship at Google where the
two will battle it out against some of the top brains out there for a job at
Google.
Trance
Trance is the latest film from Danny Boyle starring James
McAvoy, Vincent Cassel and Rosario Dawson. James McAvoy plays Simon who is
suffering with amnesia after he participated in a high value art robbery. He is
undergoing therapy in order for Vincent Cassel’s character, Franck, to find the
whereabouts of the painting that Simon hid before is amnesia. But as he undergoes
his therapy is guessing he will uncover a bigger story to what he is being fed.
The Host
A fourth trailer has been released for The Host that appears
in theatres in less than a week. This film is about love set in a future where
mankind’s existence is threatened by aliens that takes over human’s bodies.
Rachel Roberts leads this film in which she and a few others fight back against
the invaders to save mankind.
Hatchet 3
A small 50 second teaser was released for this first look at
Hatchet 3. Again this isn’t a film I’m too familiar with and I haven’t seen the
previous films. Not much of a story can be gained from this teaser. What I’ve
seen from the trailer and read from various sources is that a hunt for Victor Crowley
is on as a team heads into the haunted swaps to end the terror that has been
haunting the Honey Island Swamp, this is despite what looked to be the end of
Victor in Hatchet 2, but this is all the range in horrors right, the bad guys
always come back.
Turbo
DreamWorks’s latest animated feature is about, ironically,
one of the slowest animals out there, a snail, with the need for speed. This
snail is a big Indy 500 racing fan but with it taking him 17 minutes to across
the length of a 30 cm ruler you can see the complications. This film sets up a journey
for this everyday garden snail and after a freak accident this snail, Turbo,
voiced by Ryan Renolds, becomes turbo charged and his dreams may soon become
reality.
So there have been many new film trailers released over the
past week. I have rounded up the best over the week and compiled them all for
your ease. Rather than make a very clunky article with every trailer inside and I've spilt them up for a more easy of use. This article will consist of trailers out on March 19th where we saw two new
interesting trailers and one that we was made more aware of.
March 19th:-
The Colony
The first look of this futuristic film set in a frozen
world, where one day it didn’t stop snowing was revealed on Tuesday. The new
film stars Laurence Fishburne, Bill Paxton and Kevin Zegers but apart from that
very few details can be sourced from this first look. From what I can gather, in this new world, colonies live underneath the ice to survive the cold. They pick up an SOS signal from colony 5, where it appears they have been attacked. Laurence
Fishburne then leads a rescue team across the ice to find out what has happened
in colony 5. Towards the end of the trailer it looks like what ever they uncovered has followed them back or heading to their own home.
Love is All You Need
This romance stars Pierce Brosnan and Trine Dyrholm who both
coincidently run into each other after they scrap cars. Pierce Brosnan plays an
angry cold character, Phillip, a single parent. Trine Dyrholm’s character,
Ida, has recently survived cancer and found her husband has been cheating on
her. After they both speak they realise
that both their children are soon to be married to each other in Italy and both
head over there to embarking on a romance of their own. This trailer has been
out a while now but I’ve only included it due to Empire Magazine’s report on
the trailer over the last week that have made the trailer more aware and I definitely
think you should check it out.
Despicable Me 2
Steve Carell stars in this summer’s animated sequel Despicable Me 2. I haven’t
seen the first film but after doing a bit of reading I can gather that this
trailer shows that Gru has been taken into the Anti-Villain league due to his
insider knowledge in order to take down a new villain. Steve Coogan’s vocals
are also used in this new movie and it’s rumoured that Al Pacino will also lean his vocals, possible he could vocal the new villain perhaps? Trailer below:-
The Kick Ass 2 Trailer has appeared on-line yesterday
All the major characters from the previous film look to re-appear in this new film (that wasn't killed off in the previous film). Jim Carrey looks to be the head of the team of super heroes that have emerged since the news broke about superheroes (Kick Ass and Hit Girl) making a difference, as a result of the previous film's events. He will rival Christopher Mintz Plasse's character Chris D'Amico and new villain 'The Mother Fucker'. The trailer can be viewed below:-
The Hangover 3 First Official Trailer and Breakdown
Yesterday the first official trailer for The Hangover 3 was released showing us a first look of the final film in the trilogy.
Director:- Todd Phillips
Cast:- Bradley Cooper ... Phil
Zach Galifianakis ... Alan
Ed Helms ... Stu
Justin Bartha ... Doug
Ken Jeong ... Mr Chow
John Goodman ... (Character not confirmed, but will play a villain in this film)
Jamie Chung ... Lauren
Heather Graham ... Jade
Sasha Barrese ... Tracy
At the start of the trailer we see the cast attending a funeral of what looks to be Alan's dad, Sid Garner (Jeffrye Tambor). Although no story plot is given away in the trailer we can see that the 'Wolfpack' return back to the place where it all began, Las Vegas. We here Stu say "Someone needs to burn this place to the ground".
Taking into account that line we also was given a glimpse at the first official poster (poster above) from the Hangover 3 yesterday. The poster shows Alan and Mr Chow face to face with Vegas burning to the ground in the backdrop.
After the funeral it looks as though Alan inherits his fathers money and sets to spend some of it on another trip to Vegas. Though this time they will encounter a villain played by John Goodman. No other details are apparent but it looks as though the Wolfpack get kidnapped and are probably set to do something in Vegas by there kidnappers.
The trailer also shows a prison riot scene, so perhaps the Wolfpack could wake up in prison from their previous nights antics. Although this film is apparently using a different formula than the first two Hangover's it cant be called what it is without a forgetful previous night out.
On top of this we see that Alan has a new pet, but in the previous films where Alan chose to mother a small animal (Monkey) or baby, this time he has gone for a taller option, a Giraffe. We also see the return of Heather Graham's character Jade.
