Top 10 Premier League Transfer’s 2012/2013

Here is a list of the Barclays Premier League’s top transfers from the 2012/2013 season. First of all I’d like to mention a few players that didn’t make the top 10.

Moussa Sissoko almost made the cut due to his impressive start to life at Newcastle. The Midfielder signed from Toulouse in January for a fee of around £2m and the French man has scored 3 goals from 7 appearances. His performances have been excellent with his debut and match winning display against Chelsea being his highlight so far. He would of made the top ten but I still don’t feel we have seen enough yet, the top 10 does include a January transfer but I feel that player has impacted the team significantly and feel Sissoko still has more to bring to the table.

Pablo Hernandez is another player that just missed out. He arrived at the start of the season from Valencia for just over £5m to Swansea. He has been a crucial piece to Michael Laudrup’s Swansea side, making 20 appearances and scoring 3 goals. He has been the perfect playmaker for Swansea and fit so perfectly into Swansea’s passing game.

The other player that missed out was Remy and ultimately we won’t find out whether this was one of the top signings until the end of the season. QPR may have perhaps brought them self out of relegation when they purchased Remy for around £10m from Marseille in January.  He has only made 5 appearances so far but scored 3 goals, his goal to game ratio is good but we won’t see how crucial those goals are until the end of QPR’s season.

Now on to the top 10:-

10- Philippe Coutinho

The young Brazilian, aged 20, is a top signing for Liverpool and I think he will only get better as the player grows. He arrived from Inter Milan for a fee believed to be around £10m. The reason I have added Coutinho to the top ten is due to his impact on Liverpool. He has only featured four times for Liverpool, scoring twice, but before January Liverpool lacked that spark of attacking force that would fit nicely in with Suarez. Sterling does have potential for the future but I think he is too young and his lack of experience was proved at certain times in the first half of the season. Coutinho has fit nicely alongside Suarez, as has Sturridge, but his flair has been felt throughout and even Steven Gerrard has spoken out saying that his arrival has injected a creative spark into the side.

9- Dimitar Berbatov

What can you say? When a team buys Berbatov you know you are buying a goal machine. He has proved it in the past at Spurs and was a wasted talent at Man Utd only starting off the bench and not even being included in Utd’s crowded attack force towards the end of his time there. Berbatov arrived at Fulham for a fee around £6m and since his arrival has scored 11 goals in 23 appearances. The striker does lack that pace but he has proved he doesn’t need it with the skill he brings to the table. His quick feet and skill with the ball teamed with this strikers ruthlessness has led to the amount of goals this striker has got for Fulham.

8- Julio Cesar

He has been one of the top goalkeepers of the season and if not for him I think QPR would have been relegated at this point already. The Brazilian arrived from Inter Milan on a Free and his proved why he is one of the world’s best with some of the top draw saves he has made. QPR have lacked a solid defence all season and still failed to reinforce their back four in January, they needed someone better than Samba in my opinion. Cesar has conceded a lot of goals this season but with how poor the defence has been and the amount of saves he has made you can’t fault Cesar. His performances have also seen the Brazilian been called back up to the national team.

7-  Jan Vertonghen

I was impressed by this players performance at Ajax and waiting to see which top teams would move for his signature. Well AVB moved of him in the summer and brought him to Spurs for a fee around £12m (after Spurs had two previous bids rejected after Ajax held out for their asking price of £12m). He is one of these centre backs that could play anywhere at the back because of his solidness at that back but also his willingness to go forward. He is a capable scorer and proved it with his three goals this season. He is a defender that Spurs was missing and with his presence now in the side I feel Spurs have enough talent to secure a Champions League spot for next season.

6- Christian Benteke

He is part of this great array of Belgium talent coming through and I’m sure he will be a part of Belgium’s World Cup squad if they qualify. He arrived from Genk in the summer for about £7m and has been a rock in Villa’s poor season so far. He has supplied  Aston Villa with 13 goals so far and his addition to this new look, young, Aston Villa side has been felt drastically. He wasn’t a player know by many but since his performances he is now being linked with Man City, Arsenal and Inter Milan. He isn’t just a clinical finisher though; his ability to read the game and supply some eye catching build-up play is what adds a new dimension to this striker. I remember the one assist he got this season from a back heel before Christmas and his skill was reinforced alongside his ability to score goals then in my eyes.
